Multi‑purpose center and intermodal hub “Nuova Porta Santa Lucia”

The construction of the “Nuova Porta Santa Lucia” multi‑purpose center and intermodal hub in Urbino involved the development of a building complex extending along the hillside leading to the historic center, near the historic Porta Santa Lucia. The project is conceived as an articulated urban system accommodating commercial, office, service, and transport interchange functions, strategically positioned as a connection between the city and its mobility infrastructure.

From a construction standpoint, the intervention is characterized by a multi‑level terraced layout, with reinforced concrete structures developed along the slope and integrated with retaining works and hillside stabilization measures. The building emerges as a stepped volume, with accessible roof areas and landscaped green surfaces contributing to the continuity with the surrounding landscape.

The architectural complex is organized over several functional levels, with lower floors dedicated to parking and service areas and upper levels designed for commercial and office activities. The structural system is complemented by extensive glazed surfaces and differentiated roofing solutions, including green roof portions and transparent elements that allow natural lighting of the interior spaces.

A key feature of the project is the vertical and horizontal circulation system, consisting of escalators, elevators, and mechanized pathways that connect the lower part of the site (Via Di Vittorio), where the bus station is located, with the upper levels up to Viale Gramsci. This infrastructure integrates the different elevation levels and ensures full accessibility throughout the complex.
