Cascina Triulza – Milano Expo 2015

The Cascina Triulza complex, which is the subject of this project, is located at 171 Via Cristina di Belgioioso, within the Expo 2015 exhibition site. The farmstead includes both buildings of historical and landscape value and more recently constructed buildings lacking such characteristics, originally intended for agricultural use and later repurposed for other functions following the cessation of agricultural activities across the entire complex.

Its privileged location within the Expo 2015 site and its identity as a traditional Milanese cascina made Cascina Triulza the most suitable venue to host a center of excellence with a dual mission: welcoming visitors during Expo and remaining part of Milan’s cultural heritage after the 2015 event.

During the Expo, the open and covered areas of Cascina Triulza hosted institutions, associations, and international non-governmental organizations, which were provided with a space to interpret the Expo theme in light of their fundamental role in addressing, understanding, and advancing issues related to Expo Milano 2015. The area thus took on the character of a place for meeting, expression, and debate concerning the major issues raised by the Expo theme.

The project aims to preserve the recognizable rural morphological character of the Cascina Triulza complex, thereby contributing to the safeguarding and enhancement of the historical, landscape, and natural setting in which it is located.

The choice of construction technologies, building materials, and color schemes played a key role in defining the project, ensuring maximum harmony with the landscape concept closely linked to the theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life,” which guided and shaped the entire Expo site project.
